How Trenchless Repair Methods Could Save You Tons of Money and Hassle

Cured in place pipe

I thought I was having a really bad day when I notice dirty water was seeping out of my lawn, but as it turns out, that was only the beginning of my troubles.

When I had a sewer repair company come out to take care of it for me, the first thing they did was to dig a canyon in my front yard. I knew they would have to do some excavating to get down to the pipes, but I had no idea I was going to lose the majority of my front lawn.

It wasn’t until after weeks of seemingly endless and expensive restorative work that I learned about trenchless repair methods, even though they came on the market around 15 years ago. After doing some research I discovered how much hassle and money I could have saved myself if I had called a trenchless repair company instead.

Rather than excavating an enormous trench, this type of repair is broken up into two different techniques.

The first is called pipe bursting. This uses a pulling machine to guide a new pipe through an existing pipe using an expander head. As the expander head is pulled through, it quite literally bursts through the pipe around it to make room for the replacement.

Pipe lining, also know as cured in place pipe replacement, uses a sturdy inner lining that is fed through an old or damaged pipe, and then uses air pressure to create a tight seal with the interior of the pipe. This allows the sewer repair company to fix any problems without the need to move a single sewer line. Both of these methods are said to be equally durable by experts in the field, and most come with warranties ranging anywhere from 10 to 50 years.

After seeing the eyes sore of a trench hole that was my front lawn, I completely understood why 73% of homeowners would pay may for trenchless repair if it would preserve their existing landscaping, patio, deck, and other outdoor features.
